the documented life project - weekly challenge 8
Welcome to Week 8 of The Documented Life Project!
February 15- Add a flap to your flap.
This was my favorite challenge so far! I was going to use a full size tip in page, and add a small flap to that, but then I stumbled upon this wonderful postcard! It had the perfect quote on it and I liked how I could see the colorful planner page behind it.
I spruced up my postcard with some washi tape and then added a smaller flap that I cut from a catalog flyer. I loved the bold black and white stripes. I added a little painted paper circle for a pop of color and some more washi tape.
A note to myself was written on the back of my postcard and I used one of my digital downloads on the reverse side of my mini flap to create a list of things I am doing this week. A pretty painted washi tape arrow and funky stamp add nice bits of bold color.
I love how I can fold my mini flap and postcard tip ins back on themselves. All the doodles, stripes and color mixed make me so happy!
When I first started this project, I wondered what I would do with the lined planner pages that fall between the calendar and tip ins. As it turns out, this page has been my favorite to work on each week. It is a place to write lists, doodle, practice my sketches and leave notes and reminders to myself. I really loved this challenge and will definitely be adding more of these flap on flaps into my planner in the future!
I am looking forward to seeing your interpretations of this week's challenge and I can't wait to meet you back here next week!

Wow!! I loved it on the Facebook post but now, in all it's glory, I am so blown away! I thought the black and white stripe page was fabric and since I really like that idea, I think I'll run with it. A fabric tip-in or maybe a piece of my dye catcher sheets. See, this is what happens when I see your wonderful art. INSPIRATION! Gotta go before I forget!
Love Lynn
So glad I got to see this one in person and got to flip through and run my fingers over it! As usual, OUTSTANDING!
oh yay Lynn! I am so happy! I LOVE using fabric on EVERYTHING too! I can't wait to see it - make sure you share!
Happy Creating!
You are so sweet Lorraine! I feel the same - seeing your planner up close and personal made me realize I might want to paint mine afterall! Off to watch your video again! xo
Absolutely blown away! Love your use of color. Especially love the color on the page on the far left where the dates are. I added color to this week's date page (liquid watercolor over clear gesso) and was wondering what medium you used and wheter it bleeds through. Also, I've watched your last 15 minute mixed media several times already, TFS! I appreciate the glimpse into your process. Loving this project. I have never created so consistently!
What a great challenge! I'm finishing mine up, thanks to Roben's awesome tutorial! This is the best project ever!!
Love your pages! I love the color on the calender page and wondered if you use gesso before the color or what? I haven't painted on any of my pages yet but I'm willing.
oh Linda you made my day! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I actually can't wait to see your pages! I used acrylic on my calendar side. I smear a little on and rub it around with my finger to get the most control. By the time I am done filling in my area it is practically dry! Before I painted though, I had adhered a few little things to the page with a glue stick and in the process had some smear over my page. I let it dry and when I went to paint it acted like the most wonderful natural mask! I love it and will do it on purpose next time! Enjoy!
I am so glad you are enjoying it Jill! I am too! I can't stop looking at my planner, working in it, or just thinking about it - haha!
Hi Marrianna - how are you!?!! Thank you so much! I hope this helps! I know alot of folks are using clear gesso to stiffen and stabilize their pages a bit before they use paint! Happy Creating!
Love this!! Your colors are so pretty! Glad your enjoying the challenges and your journal pages!!
Thank you Dawn! I hope you are having fun as well - creating on a daily basis, even in a tiny way, cheers me up! Have a great week and thank you for being one of my faithful readers - it makes my day! xx
I thought the black and white hit was fabric too and thought how clever!! And I might go with the same idea. Love how you are coloring in your days (literally) on the daily pages, what a great idea!!
Have a Happy Day!
XoXo,
Kristal
Thank you Kristal! The funny thing is that I usually DO use fabric on everything. This black and white stripe just struck me as one of those I HAVE TO USE THAT things - it was part of a catalog add- a skirt I think- haha! I love the contrast that it added to all of the color on this page. I can't wait to see what you do with yours! Are you coloring your calendar side in? It's addictive as well. As soon as you start, you can't look at that side plain every again- !!!
You have a wonderful day too sweetie!
