the documented life project: weekly challenge 15

Welcome to Week 15 of The Documented Life Project!

April 5 - Monochromatic.

This week was a no brainer. I love pink. I painted my page with two colors of fluorescent pink paint, creating a scallop along one side by finger painting. Next I painted a strip of deli paper in the same shades of pink, let it dry and stitched the word pink on it with pink thread. The last thing I did was to add embellishments to the page in two shades of pink. I am not usually a bling person, but this page was asking for more. I can't wait to see what you do this week!

This week's challenge supplies: scissorsuhu glue stickGolden Acrylic in green goldPainters Brand Paint Pens in White and Black, and neon pink, chartreuse, and green, Gold Fluorescents in Pink and Orange, the Sharpie White Oil Based Pen, Deli Paper, Sharpie Mean Streak, Tim Holtz Distress ink in Persimmon, Ink Joy Pens in pink and purple, Tul Permanent Marker, and Dylusions Pure Sunshine Ink in a water brush.

the documented life project: weekly challenge 14

Welcome to Week 14 of The Documented Life Project!

March 29 - Write Your Name & Embellish It!

For this week's challenge I cut the letters out of a piece of water color paper that I had painted with the Peerless Water Colors! They are much prettier in color than the monitor shows.

I ran my tall skinny letters through the xyron and adhered them to a tip in that I had painted with varying colors of paint. I began adding some color with paint pens, scraps of my art journaling papers and washi tape.

Last, I added some detail around the lettering with a black permanent marker and a white and pink paint pen. Easy peasy! I can't wait to see what you create this week!

the documented life project - weekly challenge 12

Welcome to Week 12 of The Documented Life Project!

March 15 - Cut Up A Magazine - Add To Your Planner.

This week was fun. I took the challenge literally for once, but I have to admit it was for one reason only. MY PLANNER IS GETTING REALLY REALLY CHUNKY.  I think I need to incorporate a FLAT page every once in awhile or we are going to have a book bursting at the seams over here- and pretty darn soon.

It's okay though. I love how this page turned out. AND it forced me to be a little bit creative with how I added my magazine bits. In the end I hauled out a LONG UNUSED tool - the BIG SHOT die cut machine. I forgot I liked this thing. I forgot that it can turn any little scrap of paper or thin fabric into something cool for my planner.

I chose a magazine with bright images and some wording. I cut out several sizes of this shape and this shape. I adhered the cut outs on with a glue stick and painted stripes in the white space. I added a zillion pops of black and white with my favorite paint pens and some funky lettering before telling myself I should be done.

I cut a ton of magazine scraps up while creating this challenge. Then, when I was done,  I went around the studio cutting even more stuff up. Maybe I won't be burying this tool back in the closet afterall!

This week's challenge supplies: magazine, scissors, uhu glue stick, Golden Acrylic in ultramarine blue, Golden Acrylic in green gold, Painters Brand Paint Pens in White and Black, Big Shot Die Cut Machine.

the documented life project - weekly challenge 8

Welcome to Week 8 of The Documented Life Project!

February 15- Add a flap to your flap.

This was my favorite challenge so far! I was going to use a full size tip in page, and add a small flap to that, but then I stumbled upon this wonderful postcard! It had the perfect quote on it and I liked how I could see the colorful planner page behind it.

I spruced up my postcard with some washi tape and then added a smaller flap that I cut from a catalog flyer. I loved the bold black and white stripes. I added a little painted paper circle for a pop of color and some more washi tape.

A note to myself was written on the back of my postcard and I used one of my digital downloads on the reverse side of my mini flap to create a list of things I am doing this week. A pretty painted washi tape arrow and funky stamp add nice bits of bold color.

I love how I can fold my mini flap and postcard tip ins back on themselves. All the doodles, stripes and color mixed make me so happy!

When I first started this project, I wondered what I would do with the lined planner pages that fall between the calendar and tip ins. As it turns out, this page has been my favorite to work on each week. It is a place to write lists, doodle, practice my sketches and leave notes and reminders to myself. I really loved this challenge and will definitely be adding more of these flap on flaps into my planner in the future!

I am looking forward to seeing your interpretations of this week's challenge and I can't wait to meet you back here next week!

Who knows what can happen?!

Here are a few photos of what my planner is shaping up to look like --->

I am so excited to be a part of this group! And to be working in and with this amazing planner! I could not survive with out my yearly planner, but I, like these other artists were tired of the boring, plain agendas you would find yourself grabbing, year after year, in the school supply aisle. This planner is going to change all of that!

I love having one side of some of my pages already collaged, painted, and doodled. I plan using them as a springboard for the upcoming challenges as well as for inspiration as I create alongside of my daily life. To me, documenting your life can occur in any number of creative ways. Lists, drawings, doodles, photographs and more- ! The fold-out page construction of this planner allows you to add as many or as few pages as you choose. All the more space to DOCUMENT YOUR LIFE!

The bold and patterened tape edges are one design element that makes this planner both functional and pretty. I, for one, like to have a pop of color or a splash of pattern on each of my art journal pages. Seeing colorful stripes as I flip through my book makes me want to fill the pages with more than just my daily appointments - it makes me want to create! I can't wait to share more detailed photos along the way!

With the added option of painting your cover, this planner will be entirely YOU! I have chosen to leave my cover plain for now, but I can see that changing as the year goes on. We save photographs, we save diaries, we save art journals- most of us have stacks upon stacks, collected over the years. This project offers a deep and personal look into our ordinary, into our everyday. The routines of ourselves and our loved ones that make our memories personal. Something, that at years end, will be worth adding to that stack.

I am always anxious for the new year to arrive. Resolutions and a fresh start in so many ways- a new look at life. Won't you join me- join us, in making our daily life more beautiful? Come be a part of what is sure to be one of the most rewarding projects you take on this year!

To DOCUMENT YOUR LIFE in this planner means- staying focused, keeping up, and being creative too. Whether you like to make lists, doodle while you plan, or sketch your surroundings, this is your agenda. This is your new year. This is YOUR LIFE! DOCUMENT IT!
