my style: vintage bling & leather

I love bling. What girl doesn't? But I love leather too - good old fashioned chunky leather. I have some everyday leather cuffs I wear that are nice and wide and simple - and by simple I mean no bling.Like these little beauties.

 And then sometimes I want a little sumpin' sumpin' on my cuffs - like snazzy silky flowers

But then there are the days that I just need some good old fashioned BLING - lovely bling!

I think my leather just might be my favorite "jewel" now that I think about it. Paired with the right bauble or bling it is the perfect combination of "I can survive, I am a tough girl" and "dear me, I am feminine!" Just MY STYLE!

{ artful handbag workshop - sneak preview video}

N E W   W O R K S H O P  R E A D Y   T O   A I R - S N E A K   P E E K   H E R E !

Recycle those old t-shirts here! In this workshop we will create a colorful, roomy ARTFUL HANDBAG full of pockets, including two button pockets, two open top pockets, and two over sized pockets that easily accommodate large supplies due to the nature of the fabric. We will dye, cut, sew and create unique embellishments. We will explore the simple art of tap dyeing, challenge ourselves to create words through "doodled stitching" and put together a mini book for artwork, photos, mementos and more. We will even create a BONUS drawstring sleeve pouch! A bag that will speak to who we are, through color and construction, it can easily be arranged to suit your own personal style! The end result? An ARTFUL HANDBAG. A keeper of art or beach supplies, a carry all for babies things, a new take on the old messenger bag!

"This chunky keeper is perfect to pack up my must have art supplies for an upcoming trip to the Smoky Mountains.  It was simple to make following Rae's instructions even though my sewing skills are limited to paper. My sewing machine doesn't even know what fabric is! Rae takes you step by step (in video for all of us visual learners!) creating this workhorse so no fears for those of us who are sewing beginners. In a few hours from start to finish, I had the Keeper completed, embellished and filled!"... READ MORE.

live the repurposed life: paper ruffled clutch

My Reclaimed Fabric Ruffled Bags have been such a hit on Etsy and in my Blog Shop, that I decided to share a quick tutorial on how to make a similar recycled version with you! Perfect for a quick gift or sweet as a party favor sack, my "go green" bags are quick, easy and a great way to use up that old newspaper, instead of throwing it away!

You can also find my Reclaimed Fabric Bags at the oh-so-beautiful House of Envy Boutique in Florida and the perfectly Vintage Hip Boutique in Alabama!

live the repurposed life: pretty paper

Whenever I am working on a project that requires dyes or inks, or even paints, I always use a piece of newsprint or watercolor paper as "underpaper." A favorite tip I learned from my very talented friend, Roben-Marie. It saves cleaning up a big mess, but it also leaves me with a great piece of colorful paper to use for other projects. Last week I used some watercolor paper under a dye project. The week before I had used the same piece of paper to catch drips of paint and gesso. This week I cut sweet little hearts out of this paper and used them to make some notecards for Vintage Hip in Springfield, Alabama. Available in my Etsy Shoppe soon!
